John-Weir Park Woodlands

Project Description

John-Weir Park Woodlands

Baie-D’Urfé

The project

Following the spread of an invasive, non-native plant in one of its woodlands, the Town of Baie-D’Urfé wanted to ensure the trees’ long-term survival by carrying out a series of on-site interventions: treatments against poison ivy colonies, removal of buckthorn (the infamous invasive plant!) and large-scale planting. The Town relied on GRAME’s expertise to carry out these interventions and plant 74 trees and 150 shrubs from some 30 different species.

In addition to ensuring the sustainability of the woodlands, this initiative by the Town of Baie-D’Urfé will enable people in the area to enjoy the benefits of trees in urban areas, such as improved living conditions, reduced stress, better purification of ambient air and fewer heat islands.
